What is The Wood?

The Friends of Wood Memorial Library & Museum, known as "The Wood," is a nonprofit history and education center located on historic Main Street in South Windsor.

What is Podia?

Podia is a digital storefront where all of The Wood's online educational programming is stored and streamed.

What does The Wood offer on Podia for schools?

Despite not being able to visit Nowashe Village in person, we are pleased to bring learning and awareness about the native peoples who inhabited these lands to the virtual classroom!  Other topics and features for all ages can also be found here.

What else does The Wood offer on Podia?

A variety of one-time presentations, interviews, workshops and more!

How do I watch or share the video content with my class?

We chose to host our Online Learning Marketplace on Podia.com because of its ease of use.  All videos are hosted and streamed directly from the Podia website - no downloading or posting large video files.  Once your email(s) are added as users, you'll simply create a password to log-in.  If necessary, you can also share your log-in credentials with a student if they are absent.

How does The Wood know so much about Native Americans?

The Wood is home to more than 20,000 Native American artifacts, most of which were archaeological "surface finds" in the flood-prone South Windsor Meadows, adjacent to the Connecticut River.  There is documented evidence of the prescence of Indigenous Peoples in this area, which was, and is still today, used for agriculture.  For decades the Friends of Wood Memorial Library & Museum has offered educational opportunities on the lifeways of Northeast Woodland Indigenous Peoples.  Recently, thanks to a large grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and other matching funds, we finished construction on a 3/4 acre Native American Village on the wooded land directly behind the Wood Memorial Library.
